On the 30th of October, Smart Dubai and International Business Machine (IBM) entered into a partnership to launch the Dubai Blockchain Platform. This service is the first government blockchain platform in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). The platform will be locally built and delivered via an International Business Machine cloud environment.
It will also make life easy for organizations within the United Arab Emirates and internationally to test their blockchain projects and develop it without stress. At the same time, it will be used to revolutionize and digitize government procedures and services applied to citizens.
Dubai has always supported the use of blockchain and its vision is to have an amazing paperless government by the year 2021. As part of the partnership with IBM, various blockchain projects have been launched within several sectors such as education, roads and transport, healthcare, energy and many more.
One of the amazing features of the partnership is that organizations who conduct blockchain projects will be able to keep their data within the country and do their transactions nearby, which in turn, results to a reduced operational cost.
The platform will be powered by LinuxONE™ (IBM’s mainframe technology) which has the ability to run over 6.2 billion web transactions daily and it will conform to the ISR (Information Security Regulation) Standards.
The Director-General of SDO (The Smart Dubai Office) Her Excellency Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr was happy with the new innovation and stated, “The Dubai Blockchain Platform we are launching today with IBM – who bring a wealth of insight and expertise in the advanced tech industries – drives us forward in our mission and allows us to power all blockchain applications in the city from one united portal.”
In the same light, the CEO of the SDG (Smart Dubai Government) Establishment, HE Wesam Lootah, aired his own views by saying: “As Dubai persists on its path to becoming a world leader in the industries of the future, Blockchain technology will occupy an increasingly significant status in Governments’ and organization’s’ day-to-day undertakings, as well as in individuals’ everyday lives.”
