Dubai, one of the affluent countries in the world is no more behind when it comes to the blockchain technology. A four-day workshop on the blockchain technology was put together by the BIN (Business innovation department) within Dubai customs to create awareness within its employees about blockchain technology.

Together with the workshop was a session with Kris Bennet, an expert in the blockchain technology and the founder of Aenea, a blockchain consulting and Education Company.

Bennet talked about the functionality and major applications of the blockchain technology, as well as the best ways to incorporate this technology within the supply chain work and the modus operandi of customs.

Over 60 employees from several departments within Dubai customs participated in the workshop. Hussam Mohammed, the Director of Business Innovation Department (BID) who inaugurated the workshop said, “Dubai has positioned itself as a global city, attracting foreign trade and tourism and earning its place as an international business centre. Dubai government’s blockchain strategy calls for the shift of all applicable transactions to blockchain by 2020”.

Furthermore, he talked about trust, integrity, and the flow of information on a blockchain; “Blockchain is like a new operating system for trust. It creates a single, shared version of the truth that no single entity owns or controls. This leads to increased trust and integrity in the flow of information among participants.”

The workshop is going to play a major role within Dubai customs, it will be used to leverage the blockchain technology and strengthen the Dubai Blockchain strategy. This workshop is a step in the right direction since it will assist in accomplishing the ideals and vision of the Prime minister, Vice president and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Meanwhile, this isn’t Dubai’s first time with the blockchain technology. Dubai is already in the works with 20 blockchain technology use cases and is also in a strategic partnership with Consensys and IBM as consultants to help them accomplish their goals.
