Atari, a renowned game creator has entered into a partnership with Animoca, a Hong Kong-based brand, with the aim of creating a blockchain version of two of their popular mobile games.
Atari made a name for themselves after the production of popular games “PacMan” and “Tetris” and currently wants to break into the blockchain community by making a blockchain version of “Goon Squad” and “RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch”.
The deal they struck with Animoca was that Animoca will create and distribute blockchain versions of RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch” and “Goon Squad at a global scale. However, there is an exclusion for Hong Kong, Macau, China and Taiwan.
Meanwhile, the new versions will be launched around June 2019. Non-fungible tokens will be used via the blockchain technology just so the tokens are exclusive and cannot be cloned.
The RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch was created in the year 1999 and was made available for numerous platforms like consoles, PC, and mobile apps. The “RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch” is said to have “19 million downloads” globally and the game created a new buzz after a new feature was added such as the “Water Park” extension.
“Good Squad”, on the other hand, is a card-based game where players battle gangsters to build a criminal empire. It is only available on Andriod and IOS.
The chairman and co-founder of Animoca, Yat Siu who began his gaming career being employed by Atari, have said that the “RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad “are perfect for the blockchain community”. “The RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise is, like many of Atari’s properties, a true evergreen, having been around for two decades. Given the strategic and commercial elements of this incredibly fun simulation, it is a perfect candidate for blockchain adaptation.”
